Video Premiere: To End It All’s ‘Elegy (The Unbodied Air Version)’

The remix forms as a companion album to the forthcoming LP, ‘Of Blood And Memory’.

Following their debut 2018 long-player, Scourge of Women, Seattle-based avant-garde noise makers, To End It All, will release Of Blood And Memory on April 19 via Roman Numeral.

The release will be accompanied by a remix album where the band have invited an array of guests, including Blood Box, Test Frenzy and Thief to rework the songs from Of Blood And Memory.

Exclusive to Sun 13, watch/listen to the the remix of closing track Elegy, reworked by The Unbodied Air (featuring Erik Moggridge and Dylan Desmond of Bell Witch and Aerial Ruin, respectively).

Formed in 2016 by long-time collaborators, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Joy Von Spain and noise artist Masaaki Masao, To End It All explores bourgeoning new terrains on Of Blood And Memory, which also features appearances from Lori Goldston (cello) and Anne K. O’Neill (vocals/guitar).

Sepaking of the remix for Elegy, the band comments:

“All life must end. Reflection and at last, resignation. We sink as stones. An exploration of ‘alone’; the last moments ever experienced transform ‘being’ to ‘having been’…a release from all which binds the living to physical matter. A bridge between sentience and oblivion, to be celebrated and embraced. A farewell. The origins of this song began with a cello line ala viola da gamba in Joy’s mind fifteen years ago, being slowly formed over time and at last finding manifestation on the new album Of Blood And Memory.

“As we selected artists to remix and reimagine the album songs for the companion LP, Erik was definitely on the wish list. To complete the music, he joined up with Dylan to make a new collaboration (The Unbodied Air) which has expertly continued the somber mood and contemplative voice of the song, adding their signature dynamic power to illuminate an impression of “Elegy”. For the video, we worked with our long-time friend and filmmaker Joseph Seuferling (see also: “Concealing Waters” by Eye of Nix). Together we chose imagery of the Great Pacific Northwest in rural visions, structures in ruin, forested beauty, smoke and invasive species in a symbolic journey.”

Of Blood And Memory was recorded and mixed by JM McNulty with additional recording by Steve Ditore, while mastering duties were undertaken by James Plotkin (Khanate, MJ Guider, TORPOR).

Of Blood And Memory is out April 19 via Roman Numeral. Pre-order from Bandcamp.
