Following their wonderful U.K. and Irish tour which wrapped up last week (live review here), earlier today, the Jesus Lizard shared new stand-alone single, Westside.
The second stand-alone track released following the Jesus Lizard’s excellent 2024 release, Rack (the other being Cost of Living), Westside sees the noise-rock legends making every post a winner in what has been an emphatic return.
Talking about Westside, guitarist, Duane Denison, comments: “Westside goes along with the previous single Cost of Living — which was subconsciously influenced by Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story and hence the name. Really.”
Singer, David Yow, adds: “There is a part in Westside where the lyrics say, ‘…give him back his arm’. That was inspired by David Lynch’s Lost Highway, when Robert Blake’s character says, ‘Give me back my phone.’”
With the passing of the legendary filmmaker last week, Westside feels like fitting tribute to Lynch.
