Fortunato Durutti Marinetti has announced the second single from his forthcoming LP, the Sandro Perry produced Eight Waves in Search of An Ocean, which is set for release on November 3 by via Quindi Records and Soft Abuse.
Ahead of tomorrow’s official release of Clerk Of Oblivion, exclusive to Sun 13, be the first to listen to the track below.
Fortunato Durutti Marinetti is the brainchild of Turin, Toronto-based artist, Daniel Colussi. Having released the debut LP, Desire, in 2020, last year Fortunato Durutti Marinetti followed it up with Memory’s Fool (Soft Abuse /Bobo Integral) and a vinyl release of Desire (Second Spring).
Per the press notes, Colussi offered comment on Clerk Of Oblivion:
“A song about labour. Useless labour, pointless labour, thankless labour. Labour harmful to the labourer. Labour that exists for no other purpose than to colonize the time and energy of the labourer. Labour as sacrificial offering to a distant and unknown employer. Labour banished into oblivion. My only objective going into this song was to exorcize the spirit of Robert Wyatt’s The Age of Self, a major source of inspiration. But as usually happens, something else entirely formed. Sandro’s janky drum loops made me laugh out loud when I first heard them. Craig, Paul and Sandro’s keyboards synthesize together like smoke into fog. The whole thing is made funky by Josh Cole’s fretless bass, for which I am so grateful. Mutant sophisti-pop. Poetic Jazz Rock. Clerk of Oblivion.”
