After a prolific 2022 with a plethora of releases, under his øjeRum moniker, Copenhagen-based experimentalist and collage artist, Paw Grabowski, returns with his second album in 2023, Coiled Souls.
Following last week’s release of Vågnende Jeg Ser De Døde, Coiled Souls is set to drop on February 24 via Roman Numeral Records. Having already released the album’s lead single, Soft Pastel Tongue, exclusive to Sun 13, you can be the first to listen to second single, Silvery White Clouds, below.
While the Lawrence English produced Vågnende Jeg Ser De Døde consists of three long-form compositions, Coiled Souls is far removed, as Grabowski delves into the realm of bourgeoning lo-fi folk.
10 songs inspired by minimalism, Coiled Souls could also be considered as album filled with slowcore lullabies, occupying a similar sound world to Aidan Baker’s You Are All At Once (coincidently, øjeRum provided the artwork to Nadja’s 2022 release, Nalepa).
On Coiled Souls Grabowski’s muffled vocals provide a fragile quality, perfectly capturing the solitude this album was written in. It’s like we’ve never heard him before, with beautiful range of serene textures and soundscapes that cross the threshold from experimentation to traditional songcraft.
Silvery White Clouds is the latest serving.
Coiled Souls is out February 24 via Roman Numeral Records. Pre-order from Bandcamp.
