Video Premiere: Benjamin Finger’s ‘Closer’

The track is taken from the Norwegian experimentalist’s forthcoming album, ‘Beyond’.

This Friday, Norwegian experimental artist, Benjamin Finger, will release his latest album, Beyond, via Roman Numeral Records.

Beyond follows Finger’s 2023 October release, blue forty-eight (Blue Tapes / X Ray Records), and exclusive to Sun 13, be the first to watch the video which contains the excerpt to lead track, Closer.

Benjamin Finger was educated at Oslo Photo Art School and UIB before he started to study film to become a director. He has done several short films, music videos and various photo exhibitions, besides working for television, NRK. He is now a freelancer and has been composing music since 2005, having released numerous solo albums and collaborations since, including We Carry The Curse with James Plotkin (Khanate) which was also released via Roman Numeral in 2020.

Speaking of Beyond, per the press release, Finger comments:

“Beyond was recorded in my home studio. It took about two years to complete. I’ve used analogue Korg synths, an acoustic guitar, various pedals, alien objects and field recordings through the process. The record pretty much deals with issues of longing and isolation. It ́s about trying to hold on to someone you love in a difficult time. Maybe one could call the music post-covid sadness? Anyway, Lynn Fister (US) have done the vocals and Elling Finnanger Snofugl (NO) plays the cello. I regard them as members of the “band” since they have been involved in so many of my solo albums alongside Inga – Lill Farstad (NO). I owe them a lot for always contributing.

“The Norwegian painter and graphic artist Håkon Bleken is someone I’ve admired for a long time. It’s a honour to be able to use his work on this very personal album. Also having Helge Sten doing the master is something of a dream come true. I’ve been wanting to work with him for ages. Very grateful to have these two fine gentlemen involved.”

Beyond is out Friday via Roman Numeral Records. Purchase from Bandcamp.
