Australian duo, Mess Esque, featuring Helen Franzmann (McKisko) and Mick Turner (Dirty Three, Tren Brothers) have announced details of their much-anticipated third album.
Jay Marie, Comfort Me is set for release on March 28 via Drag City. Last week, the duo shared the lead single, Take Me To Your Infinite Garden, which you can watch/listen to below.
Jay Marie, Comfort Me follows the duo’s excellent 2022 Self-Titled release (also Drag City) and their 2021 debut LP, Dream #12 (Bedroom Suck).
Co-produced by Franzmann and Turner alongside Nick Huggins, who recorded the Dirty Three’s 2024 comeback release, Love Changes Everything, Turner’s 2013 solo LP, Don’t Tell the Driver, and McKisko’s album, Southerly, Jay Marie, Comfort Me also features Keeley Young and Kishore Ryan from the live band, as well as cellist Stephanie Arnold, and percussionists, Bree van Reyk and Jim White (who’s latest band, The Hard Quartet landed Sun 13’s Album of 2024).
The title, Jay Marie, Comfort Me, is from a line in the song, That Chair, in reference to Franzmann’s sister who died in her sleep unexpectedly last year.
