Lande Hekt announces new album

The U.K. songwriter shares lead track, ‘Favourite Pair of Shoes’.

Lande Hekt has announced details of her third LP and the first in just under four years.

Lucky Now is set for release on January 30, 2026 via Tapete Records. This morning, the Essex songwriter shares the video for the album’s lead track, Favourite Pair of Shoes, which you can watch / listen to below.

A song filled with the jangle splendour reminiscent of the Dunedin sound, on Favourite Pair of Shoes, Hekt puts her best foot forward in what is her most assured work yet.

Speaking about Favourite Pair of Shoes, Hekt says, “I wrote this song when I was listening to a lot of The Bats and The Chills, it probably sounds nothing like any of that Flying Nun stuff but that was what was inspiring me at the time. Despite the lines that lean towards despair, I think this is quite a hopeful song. It’s about rising out of a pit of hopelessness and doing something really positive.

“The song features my old friend and longtime collaborator, Samuel Bedford. We first sang together when we were 16, we recorded a song together for his folk solo project, then we were in an indie rock band together when we were 21 called Selfish Son. Sam sang on my song Kitchen in 2020 and now he sings on this song and Coming Home. Each of these collaborations are five years apart which is tidy.”

Recorded with Matthew Siims (Wire, It Hugs Back), while her debut full-length Going to Hell (2021) and follow-up House Without a View (2022) saw Hekt exploring her queer identity, sobriety, and childhood trauma, on Lucky You Hekt reflects on the most mature and confident version of herself. “I wanted to try and push for something slightly more positive, which I’m trying to do more of generally – just to not fall apart,” she says.

On songs like Circular and A Million Broken Heart, the songwriter also returns to more politically-based songwriting, after largely avoiding politics in both life and music during a disillusioned period. “If you get swept up in the notion that being politically engaged in any way is embarrassing, that is so dangerous,” Hekt says now. “It’s really important to try and find a way to reject that.”

Hekt will be playing The Lexington in London next Wednesday, October 15. Tickets are on sale now.
