Since Sun 13’s inception, I can’t think of a U.K. band that’s experienced a trajectory quite like Glasgow’s Dragged Up.
While the band’s 2020 self-titled release piqued the interests of the devoted few, Dragged Up’s Hex Domestic EP lifted them to new stratospheres, which subsequently led them up and down the country in support of the release. Their brand of pervasive slacker-inspired indie rock, influenced by the past but delivered with the kind of gusto very much relevant in the present.
Which is why their excellent 2024 LP, High on Ripple, was so well received. And not just from the usual suspects – Dragged Up’s lovely racket, tickling the fancy of Emmett Kelly, and fast forward less than 12 months, the band were hand-picked to support The Hard Quartet on their current European and U.K. tour.
Spearheaded by Eva Gnatiuk (guitar/vocals), Simon Shaw (guitar/ vocals), Stephen Mors (drums), Alpha Michelle (bass/ backing vocals), to celebrate their current tour, last month Dragged Up digitally released their new single, Blake’s Tape, and coupled with the B-side, Clachan Dubh, both tracks will be released on CD/cassette via Rare Vitamin.
Ahead of Clachan Dubh’s digital release tomorrow, exclusive to S13, be the first to listen below.
Dragged Up - Clachan DubhClachan Dubh sees Dragged Up deliver the kind of slacker anthem made for road trips. And speaking of, the band finds itself on one (well, of sorts), in, you guessed it, a Clachan Dubh. The protagonist, moving through the history of the village with a story that oscillates between the past and present. It’s Dragged Up as sharp as ever, with a song that beasts most other B-sides in the realms of modern day indie-rock. Don’t believe me? Just listen for yourself.

One reply on “Track Premiere: Dragged Up’s ‘Clachan Dubh’”
[…] With chiming guitars pitted against fuzz-laden grooves, there’s everything from Sonic Youth reverence to the spiky post-punk of Drahla and even some slacker echoes of current Glasgow favourites, Dragged Up. […]
