Alan Sparhawk has announced details of his second solo release in as many years.
Following last year’s White Roses, My God, Sparhawk returns with Trampled by Turtles, which is set for release on May 30 via Sub Pop. Earlier today, Sparhawk shared the video for lead single, Stranger, which you can watch / listen to below.
Recorded at the end of 2023 at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, Trampled by Turtles is a record exactly as its name implies: a collective, communal, fraternal and empathetic record, recorded with the assistance of long-time friends and fellow Minnesotans, Trampled by Turtles.
For years, the two parties had talked about making music together, and when Sparhawk needed it most following the passing of his wife and Low co-founder Mimi Parker, the promise re-emerged. “When the opportunity seems right, you jump,” says Sparhawk, per the press release notes. “There’s a certain vibe that has to do with underdog syndrome, coming from a small town. Some of it is the weird grind and slackness that being at the mercy of Mother Nature puts in you. It humbles you.”

Trampled by Turtles is set release two days after Sparhawk’s Liverpool show at the Arts Club – one of three U.K. dates before his European tour which includes performances at this year’s Primavera festival.
