Track Premiere: Dead Bandit’s ‘Half Smoked Cigarette’ and ‘Glass’

The songs are taken from the duo’s forthcoming self-titled LP.

Ghostly experimental duo, Dead Bandit, return in 2025 with their third album.

Consisting of Chicago songwriter, Ellis Swan, and Canadian multi-instrumentalist James Schimpl, Dead Bandit make it a quick turnaround with Dead Bandit, which lands on March 14 via Quindi Records. The self-titled release follows last year’s excellent Memory Thirteen, which featured in our Top 50 Albums the Year.

Tomorrow marks the release of Dead Bandit’s lead double singles, Half Smoked Cigarette and Glass. Exclusive to Sun 13, ahead of tomorrow’s release, be the first to listen to the two tracks below.

Both tracks see Dead Bandit continuing to weave more thread through their expanding patchwork. Half Smoked Cigarette, foggy psychedelia conceived from dark rooms, inspired by lonely nights spent scouring through the record collections. Underpinned by a guitar line that just about equals Memory Thirteen’s Blowing Kisses – one of the best tracks of 2024 – it leaves you wanting more. Which is where Glass comes in. Permeating with haunting dub and dance hall echoes, again Swan’s lurching guitar lines are like spirits stalking the room.
