The Jesus Lizard announce new album and tour dates

Listen to the lead track, ‘Hide & Seek’, taken from the band’s first album in 26 years.

Noise-rock legends, the Jesus Lizard, have announced details of their first album since 1998’s Blue.

Rack will be released on September 13 via Ipecac Recordings, and today, the band shares the opening track, Hide & Seek.

Singer, David Yow, describes the song as “a perky ditty about a witch who can’t behave, and it’s got nearly as many hooks as a Mike Tyson fight”.

An accompanying video captures the band, Duane Denison, Mac McNeilly, David Wm. Sims, and Yow as they recorded the song with producer, Paul Allen at Nashville’s Audio Eagle Studio.

Speaking of Rack, Denison says, “There are definitely some references to the past. But it’s more as a point of departure: We don’t stay there.”

The Jesus Lizard reconvened in 2009 for shows that included headline performances at the All Tomorrows Parties festival in Minehead. Having spent the following years as both friends in close contact with one another, and with another reunion between 2017 and 2019, it seemed inevitable the band would reconvene for new music at some point.

“We literally only made the record because we thought it would be fun to make the record,” says Sims, per the press release notes. McNeilly also comments, highlighting the strong relationship amongst the band: “We are bonded by the music we make, and also by the respect we have for each other.”
