Album Premiere: Antler Disko’s ‘Annihilation Year’

Listen to the Finland producer’s third album ahead of tomorrow’s release.

Antler Disko is the project of Finnish artist / producer Eeli Helin. Also one half of withering noise merchants Fawn Limbs, tomorrow, Helin will welcome in the latest Antler Disko instalment, Annihilation Year, via Syrup Moose Records.

Under the Antler Disko moniker, Helin’s haunting and visceral output is sculpted from a molten pool of acid house, ambient techno, glitch, and doom electronica, amongst a variety of other stylistic leanings.

Having officially started the project in 2023, Annihilation Year is the third Antler Disko release. Exclusive to Sun 13, ahead of tomorrow’s release be the first to listen to the album in full below.

Annihilation Year picks up from where his previous albums Hunting Room and Mondo Town left off, focusing on tangible perpetually mutating percussive segments topped with aerial tapestries existing somewhere in the liminal space between abstract ambiances and gripping acid leads, alongside foley sound design and industrially tinged noise. The eight songs thematically deal with subject matters revolving around the notion of change and how things need to be destroyed in order to create something new.

Deeply rooted in life altering events and crossing certain thresholds of no return, the material on Annihilation Year is by no means easy access, but is all the more rewarding once you get ahold of everything that is going on.

Speaking to Sun 13 ahead of tomorrow’s release, Helin comments:

Annihilation Year is the aural counterpart to worlds colliding and collapsing on themselves, and aims to shed light to the rebuilding process each of us individually go through at one point or the other during our lives. The album was born during a pivotal moment in my life, and proved to be a crucial component in stitching things together again, after each and every seam of this life’s fabric was torn apart.

”As with previous albums, Annihilation Year is a malformed techno animal running on drum machines, various synths, and samplers, and sheds some scarce light to Antler Disko’s overall headings. Darker and more contemplative by design, the entirety of the album is an ode to betternment and a promise of reconciliation between the juxtapositions that gave birth to it.”

Annihilation Year is out tomorrow via Syrup Moose Records. Purchase from Bandcamp.
