Bonnacons of Doom announce new album

The masters of Trans Pennine hypnotics make a long-awaited return. Watch the video for lead track, ‘Facing’.

Liverpool-based transcendental shape-shifters, Bonnacons of Doom, have announced details of their much anticipated second album.

Signs is the follow-up to the band’s 2017 self-titled debut, and is set for release on October 27 via Rocket Recordings.

Created by Sam Wiehl (Mogwai, Forest Swords), this morning the band share the video for lead single, Facing, which you can watch below.

Shortly before the release of Signs, Bonnacons of Doom will embark on a string of U.K. dates alongside label mates, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, before an album launch show at London’s Moor Beer Vaults on Thursday, October 26 (with support from Human Hand), before concluding with a Liverpool date at Quarry on Saturday, November 11.

Speaking in the press release in the lead up to the announcement of Signs, the band’s Rob Strachan comments:

“The past five years has really accelerated a sense of confusion” he says. “I think we’re in a period of post-digital decay and in a sense the album is naturally a response to that. I think everyone feels out of control and we’re all trying to make sense of a period where it feels like everything is falling apart. So I think culturally and politically there’s a tendency to look for emergent signs to explain things that are essentially chaotic. Pattern recognition is a key part of being a human so we all look for signs even if their interpretations are misaligned or totally out there.”

Vocalist, Kate Smith adds, “There was definitely a conscious decision to address the real world more explicitly on this record. It’s much more lyric based than the first album but still trying to channel something otherworldly or spiritual. The idea of signs works as a multiple metaphor across the album” she adds. Signs related to differing aspects of being human.”
