Teaming up with the Liverpool International Jazz Festival (LIJF), UK’s leading Indian Arts & Culture company, Milap, mark their return with the first live performance event with an audience in over two years.
Milap’s return includes a collaboration between jazz pianist/ composer Zoe Rahman, her brother, Idris Rahman on clarinet, and British Bengali vocalist Sohini Alam, which takes place on Saturday, February 26 at The Capstone Theatre.
Alongside new arrangements of music by Nazrul and Tagore, the musicians will also be performing music from Zoe’s 2008 album, Where Rivers Meet. Zoe has since released the LP, 2016’s Dreamland.
Joining Zoe is her brother, Idris Rahman, a London-based saxophonist, clarinettist, singer, bass-player, composer and producer, who also co-fronts London outfit, the Soothsayers, and vocalist, Sohini Alam, who also fronts the band, Khiyo and Kishon Khan’s Afro-Cuban-Bengali jazz outfit, Lokkhi Terra.
Established in 2013 by Liverpool Hope University, the ninth edition of the Liverpool International Jazz Festival will take place from Thursday February 24 to Sunday February 27.
