Mabe Fratti came to our attention last year with her debut album, Pies Sobre La Tierra.
The Guatemalan experimentalist created haunting waves of sound in a world not far away from the the angel-like noise fellow contemporaries, Julianna Barwick, Less Bells, and MJ Guider have been producing over the last 10 years.
Suffice to say, Pies Sobre La Tierra was a stirring debut and the start of a bright, if not somewhat elusive, creative journey.

Not resting on her laurels, Fratti’s ideas continue to push the boundaries. Offsetting conventionality with heretical soundscapes, on En Medio – the second single from Fratti’s forthcoming sophomore album, Será que ahora podremos entendernos? – we see her revelling in the world of creation.

Mabe Fratti - En Medio
Fratti implements the extremities showcased on Pies Sobre La Tierra, and while her go-to weapon in the cello still prominent, En Medio dances with elements beyond the world of composition – namely pop.
Yuko Araki: End of Trilogy – “a portal to an alternative universe”
This is anything but stock-standard conformity, though. Here, Fratti still has one foot firmly in the camp of experimentation. Her gentle vocals raise barely above a whisper, providing a perfect aid to the luscious galaxies of sound that softly flicker with an ambience expanding beyond the boundaries created during Pies Sobre La Tierra.
Following lead single, Hacia El Vacio, which featured a fantastic cameo from vocalist, Claire Rousay, En Medio is undoubtedly another solid offering from the young composer.
En Medio is out now via Unheard Of Hope. Será que ahora podremos entendernos? is set for release on June 25. Pre-order at Bandcamp.
