Big Brave announce new album and share lead track – watch/listen here

“VITAL” arrives in April with the band releasing new song “Half Breed”.

Montreal’s Big Brave have announced details of their much-anticipated follow-up album to 2019’s excellent A Gaze Among Them.

VITAL will be released digitally and on CD on April 23 via Southern Lord. The vinyl release will follow on July 9.

Recorded with Seth Manchester (The Body), at Rhode Island’s Machines With Magnets, Big Brave (Robin Wattie – vocals, guitar, bass, Mathieu Ball – guitar and Tasy Hudson – drums) continue the explorations of their carefully sculptured repetitions and hypnotic heaviness, creating meditative, crushing sounds.

“We fully trust his instinct as an engineer and his creative output, getting to experiment with textures, concepts, layers, and with pretty much every single recorded sound, the process of making records with Seth is an absolute journey in sonic exploration.” said the band of their alliance with Manchester for VITAL.

Speaking of the lyrics, the band adds, “This album involves what it means navigating the outside world in a radicalised body and what it does to the psyche as a whole while exploring individual worth within this reality.”

On the video for Half Breed, the band go onto say, “The action of shovelling dirt onto the person, also acts a way to discredit, shame and discriminate the individual. With the victim (on screen), being painfully covered with dirt by the perpetrator (off screen), all we have to witness is the damage done and left behind. We are aware of what is happening, what has happened, but the source is kept anonymous and can easily be missed and overlooked.”
