Track Premiere: Cor de Lux’s ‘Nail Biter’

The song was recorded during the sessions for their latest LP, ‘Media’.

To celebrate the first birthday of their 2023 album, Media, North Carolina post-punk collective, Cor de Lux, are set to release new single, Nail Biter.

Held over from the Media recording sessions, according to the band, Nail Biter “touches on current ‘oh man everything’s fucked’ sentiments and carries a ’90s slacker atmosphere that keeps the tone light and easy to move to.”

Cor de Lux is Dawn Moraga (guitar / vocals), Tim Lusk (guitar), Thomas McNeely (drums / vocals) and John Bliven (bass). The four-piece came to our attention last year with Media, tapping into the ghostly sound world the likes of Activity, FACS and Protomartyr have cultivated over the years. Read our 13 Questions interview with the band here.

Ahead of tomorrow’s official release, exclusive to Sun 13, be the first to listen to Nail Biter below.

The band offered further comment ahead of Nail Biter’s release:

“The song came from Dawn playing the main riff on a bass guitar and Tim discovering this harmonic-only guitar line. That created an anxious energy and the ‘nail biter’ premise fell into place after that. Dawn sings the vocals in a super playful way that started as a joke, but we all ended up loving the delivery. This song has been a great template as we’ve written new songs and aligns with the less self-serious tone we’re taking in our new music.”

Nail Biter is out tomorrow. Media is out now. Purchase from Bandcamp.
