Hellena: Crazy – “Fortune favours the brave”

The Greek songstress releases the first single from her forthcoming debut album.

Having come to our attention with her 2018 EP, Love Is Dead, London-based Hellena established quite firmly that she could write a fucking song.

Mixed by Chris Common (Pelican, Emma Ruth Rundle), Love Is Dead was filled with tenderness and dread, delivered with a desert witch aesthetic reminiscent of Chelsea Wolfe and Marissa Nadler.

Having since relocated back to her native homeland of Greece, Hellena delivers her new single, Crazy – the first cut from her forthcoming debut album Demythed which lands at the end of the month.

Hellena - Crazy

With Crazy, Hellena continues to meander beyond those initial sonic terrains.

A song centred on the themes of bullying, sonically Crazy has been put through the pop mincer.

While the bedding of minimal orchestral strings remains alongside those faint echoes of Nadler, with Crazy, Hellena draws from the likes of Lana Del Rey to release something fresh and invigorating.

We’ll know later on this month whether Demythed occupies a similar chamber of sound, but with Crazy, Hellena has showcased her ambition.

As they say, fortune favours the brave and so far it’s paid off.
